I was under-prepared, I suspected I might be, and had to rush everything together. I already had everyone's character's flushed out but I still had to write down what some people's spells were and such so they could just look at a piece of paper.
The party consisted of:
- Ashan'roon the World Thought Medic, being played by my friend sense highschool. His plans are to RP, lead and break my game over itself. I had to spend well over an hour flushing out how Telepathy worked. His social skill is Diplomacy.
- Scat Dwarven Warblade, played by my spaz of a friend. He's more just there to hang out and may not be a permant member. He likes games, been playing a lot of video games recently. He seems like he'll be a more well rounded person. His social skill is Intimidate.
- Rilus the Human Factotum, played by one of the guys who comes by for Friday Night Magic. He'll be the main skill monkey doing spot checks, disable device, open locks and other miscellaneous stuff. His character is currently a ranged guy, with high dex, but I'm going to ask if he would rather be in the melee more. I think he's leaning towards Evil/Chaotic but won't jump on it of his own accord. His social skill is bluff.
- And A Gnomish Beguiler focusing on Illusions, is played by friend of the medic and sister of the factotum. She is completely green to the idea of rpgs and said I want to play a mage. Wanting to stay within Tier 3 for balance sack, and not wanting to have to deal with a dread necromancer, I gave her this as the class. She's pretty neutral as far as alignment goes. She is going to use her six skill points per level to help her sneak and be an encyclopedia.Her social skills are bluff and sense motive.
We are starting at Level 1 and I decided to do the Sunless Citadel as our first adventure. I'm going to modify it very little if any as most of them will be learning how to be bad ass with their character and learning some basic adventuring concepts, like skeletons need to be bashed. So I'm not worried about them destroying this whole adventure with better than average characters.
I did kind of a basic intro, man I suck at starting an adventure I really need to work on this, and asked what everyone's back story was and then, as a terrible DM, I stuck them in a tavern and had a village barker come in and ask for people to find out more about the Sunless Citadel and what happened to the previous adventuring crew they sent. And we are off. We didn't get far, we needed to end early as the gnome had a previous engagement in the morning and isn't as crazy as the others about staying up all night, but in the short period of time: They fought some rats, one bit the warblade and another the factotum; Managed to sleep one and tie it and knock it out and in one of their bags, all the medic's idea; Found out that trap doors suck, and that low search checks suck; And that skeletons need to be bashed to death.
They are so close to leveling that I'm thinking of running an in town adventure and then leveling them.
Hopefully this week goes a bit smoother and we get more done.
